Seasonal Decorating on the Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is two very different addresses for what we do. The side streets between Fifth and Lexington are lined with limestone and brownstone townhouses, and those raised stoops, iron railings, and carved door surrounds are some of the best entry architecture in the city to decorate. Then the avenues are prewar co-ops and condos, where the front of your home is a door, a foyer, or a terrace rather than a stoop.

On a townhouse we do the full entry: garland run up the railings and door surround, a wreath sized to a tall door, lit trees flanking the steps at Christmas, and a layered fall arrangement on the stoop that reads the length of the block. On an apartment we work the door, the entry gallery, and the terrace, and we keep it tasteful and correctly scaled to the space.

One honest note for the avenues: co-op and condo buildings have rules about hallways, doors, and shared terraces, so check with your board or managing agent before you book anything for a shared space. We are happy to work to whatever your building allows.
