Landmarked Mizner estates and a street standard set a century ago. Custom and whole-home work only, on route days.
The town of Palm Beach is the highest bar we work to and the smallest amount of work we take. There are more than three hundred and twenty-eight landmarked properties, sites, and vistas protected under the town's historic preservation ordinance, a Landmarks Preservation Commission that meets monthly, and architectural review that governs parcels inside the historic districts.
To be clear about what that means for you: those rules cover permanent alterations, not a seasonal display, so decorating your entry for Christmas is not going through architectural review. But the standard those rules exist to protect is exactly the standard the street holds itself to, and it is the reason we only bring custom and whole-home work to the island. Addison Mizner designed sixty-seven structures here between 1919 and 1924, including the Everglades Club and Via Mizner off Worth Avenue, and the Mediterranean Revival vocabulary he set is still the local language. A generic display in front of that architecture looks worse than no display at all.
Palm Beach is Zone 4. Route-day scheduling, a $100 delivery line, and a package minimum that in practice means custom work. Many of these entries sit behind hedges and walls, which changes the design problem entirely: the display has to work at the gate and at the door, and the two are not the same thing. Tell us early, because we run the island as part of a north county route and those days fill.
We turn down more work on the island than we take, and that is deliberate. If your entry is a landmarked Mediterranean facade behind a mature hedge and what you want is a wreath, we are the wrong call, because the Zone 4 drive makes that job bad for you and bad for us. If you want the gate, the approach, and the entry treated as one designed piece for the season, that is exactly the work worth the trip and we will design it properly. Ask early, because the island runs as part of a single north county route.
